Do you ever wonder how healthy it is for you to wash your clothes in that chemical-laden, neon blue laundry detergent? (Or do you worry about how harmful it is to the environment once rinsed down the drain?)
I’ve tried a couple of different eco-friendly methods / recipes (like the one in this older post) but in the end I find that the easiest + least expensive option is Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap (which can be used to clean many other things – here’s a handy little cheat sheet for how much to dilute it.)
Why I like Dr. Bronner’s: It’s biodegradable & vegetable-based, and doesn’t have any harsh chemicals like sodium laurel sulfate. (There are some other great options out there, but I’ve found that a lot of the “natural” laundry detergents at the health food store are still loaded with harsh chemicals)
How to use: Add about 1/3 – 1/2 cup of Dr. Bronner’s to the wash (adding 10- 20 drops of essential oil is nice too. You can also add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle which acts as a fabric softener & will keep colors bright.)
Let me know how it goes if you try it!
