After much thought I’ve decided to bring back the ever popular bamboo + organic cotton t-shirt! People are still contacting me 5 years later letting me know how much they love their shirt, how soft and comfortable it is, and how beautifully it’s held up! You asked for it – you got it!
As a bonus – you’ll get $5.00 off of tee’s that are pre-ordered now ($35 for mens/unisex, $32 for ladies tees)
Shirts will go up their regular price after Sunday, 1/17
* Since this is a pre-order, please allow 3 – 4 weeks for me to receive and print your t-shirt.
Since my supplier is phasing out the organic cotton Alternative Apparel tee’s I’ve been printing on, I’ve decided to give these shirts a trial run. As I mentioned before, my main focus these days is on the natural body care/aromatherapy/holistic health side of The Lotus Root, so if you’d like a shirt, get it while you can!
What I love about these shirts (besides how soft and silky they feel) is that they range from XXS – 2XL in Women’s & XS – 3XL in Mens/unisex, and are flattering on all body types.
I’ve also listed some hemp + organic cotton shirts – which fit great and get softer and softer with each wash.
You can check out the shirts available for pre-order here (order now to get your sweethearts tee in time for valentines day!) : https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheLotusRoot

Add two cups Epsom salt and/or 2- 3 handfuls of sea salt + ten drops frankincense essential oil + white sage bath tea to your bath water, and soak for about 20 minutes.
White sage tea can be used in the bath in the same way that you would use sage for smudging – to purify, cleanse and protect from negative energies. Sage has anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, calming, and deodorizing properties, and smells amazing.
Clinical studies have proven that *frankincense deepens breathing and strengthens the immune system. It’s very calming, and helps relax and focus the mind. Like sage, frankincense is believed to cleanse and protect the body and aura.
While bathing, it’s also helpful to focus on deep breathing, while imagining everything that you no longer want to hold onto going down the drain as you exhale.
*Not recommended if pregnant or nursing

Today I’m starting Seven Days of Self-Love. Are you in?
Slacking on self-care a bit over the summer made me really feel the difference that The Sixty Days of Self-Care Challenge made in my life. I don’t know about you, but I could definitely use a little motivation to step it up. If seven days sounds doable, I’d love it if you’d join in!
It feels like a good time to start, to prevent the winter blues from setting in, and to get some good habits started before the holidays.
Feel free to start anytime though! Same guidelines apply as with #sixtydaysofselfcare – The term self-love is just feeling more nourishing to me at the moment – and I think we could all use a little more love. (Find more info here / basically – do at least one thing that nourishes your mind, body & soul everyday)
Continue to share what you’re up to on The Lotus Root Facebook page + instagram (#SevenDaysOfSelfLove), or keep emailing me your pics/stories if you don’t want to share them publicly. (TheLotusRoot@gmail.com) I’ll be cheering you on the whole time.
Remember – this is not a selfish act. When people see you giving yourself love, it makes them feel better about doing the same. It creates a ripple effect. Plus – it keeps you accountable so you won’t give up on yourself! *Added bonus: Taking part in this *will*make you more radiant. Believe me, people can feel it when you take the time to give yourself love.*
Day 1: Making sure to stay hydrated

Learn more about Schizandra, here: http://thelotusroot.com/schizandra-berry-for-vibrant-health-and-beauty/
Today I wanted to share one of my favorite herbs, and one of the most powerful and beneficial around: Schizandra berry.
I’ve been taking this herb for several years, and I’m excited that I finally got my hands on some of the highest quality Schizandra out there (and I want to share the wealth!)
It has been one of the top herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years, promoting vibrant health and beauty. It’s said to “calm the heart and quiet the spirit” and to “prolong the years of life without aging”
It’s known as Wu Wei Zi, often translated as “five flavor fruit” – and is the only herb with all 5 flavors ( sweet, salty, bitter, sour and pungent ). It benefits, tonifies, and balances all organs and meridians in the body, and is an adaptogen (helping you deal with physical and mental stress.)
“If used for 100 days successively, Schizandra is said to purify the blood, sharpen the mind, improve memory, rejuvenate the Kidney energy (especially the sexual functions in both men and women), and cause the skin to become radiantly beautiful.” – Ron Teeguarden.
Improves eyesight (In Russia Schizandra is considered eye food, and is a registered medicine for vision difficulties. [Source]
Cleanses the liver
Improves alertness and concentration
Strengthens the respiratory system
Boosts energy at a cellular level
Helps skin retain moisture
Promotes beautiful eyes & hair
Safely detoxifies the body
Helps speed recovery after surgery
Normalizes blood sugar
etc..etc..etc.. (learn about more of Schizandras benefits, here. Yes – there are even more benefits!)
Where to find it, and how to prepare?
I’ve made schizandra berry tea & tinctures with berries from Mountain Rose Herbs* in the past ( Learn how to make your own tincture, here:
Lately I’ve been mixing 1/4 of a teaspoon of schizandra powder in hot or cold spring water.
As I mentioned, I just got my hands on some really high quality Schizandra extract from Lucidera* (Organic, American grown in pristine soil, highly concentrated, freeze-dried to retain nutrients, etc..) As luck would have it, Nick, the owner of Lucidera sent out a coupon code yesterday as I was working on this post. I emailed him to find out if I could share it with you, and he generously offered to create an exclusive 20% off coupon code and extend it to March 20th at Midnight, EST. Sign up here to get the code!
*I have no affiliations with these companies. I just love supporting and spreading the word about businesses with sustainable practices, who are going above and beyond with the quality of their products. I love researching this stuff, and being able to share it with you. It hurts my heart when people think herbalism doesn’t work because they’ve only tried low quality herbs.
Let me know if you try schizandra, and what results you get!**

Since the Herbal Medicine Everyday challenge was a hit, I’ve started a new challenge: Sixty Days of Self Care.
The rules are – there are no rules :) I’m keeping this really loose on purpose. Everyday I’ll be posting one thing I’m doing to care for myself on instagram (whatever I feel that I need that day) I’d love it if you’d join me.
How to participate: Share your self-care practices on Instagram, and use the hashtag #Sixtydaysofselfcare so that others can get inspired. If you don’t have the instagram app, you can follow along and get ideas via the website: www.instagram.com/TheLotusRoot. You can also share what you’ve been doing (in photos or in writing) on The Lotus Root Facebook page, on this thread
Please feel free to participate even if you don’t want to share it publicly. Start a journal dedicated to 60 days of self-care (or just self care in general). It’s nice to record what you’re doing and look back at what worked and what didn’t / to help process what you’re going through / or to see how far you’ve come.
You can start any day you’d like. The days don’t have to be consecutive. Take part in it one day or everyday. Don’t worry If you miss a day – I like to keep things pressure-free. Sometimes the best self-care you can give yourself is simply taking a break from doing anything. Doing absolutely-freakin-nothing counts just as much as self-care as making green juice would. Taking some time to relax your brain and to watch a funny movie is self-love in my book. The key is to do whatever your mind/body/soul needs that day. The less stress and pressure, the better. The key is to just get into the practice of focusing more on caring for yourself, without guilt.
If you decide to take part in the challenge, feel free to share this post so that other people can be inspired to give themselves the love and care they deserve <3
And don’t forget to let me know how it goes! Feel free to get in touch with any insights / observations / questions etc. :)
(While I may not be able to reply right away, I’ll be here cheering you on!!)
